Destination Wedding~ Ritz Carlton St.Thomas, USVI. Tony & Meagan

Congratulations to Tony and Meagan!
Hurricane Tomas may have been lurking among the Caribbean Islands for the week long celebration of events and wedding of Meagan and Tony, however the sunshine was on their side and everyone enjoyed 5 days of love, laughter, and adventure. My staff and I had the most wonderful time working with Meagan and Tony and all 95 of their closest family and friends in St.Thomas! Yes! 95 guests made the trek from the East coast to the Virgin Islands to watch this couple exchange vows!

How Dangerous is it to Book Your Own Travel?

Article taken from Cooks American Express Travel Blog
New York, NY- Disintermediation - cutting out the middle man - was previously thought to have killed brick and mortar agencies. Wrong. Travel agents are rising in popularity and booking more airfares than ever. According to the International Association of Travel Agents, travel agent bookings are rising by nearly 10 percent in the second quarter of 2010, despite the presence of internet booking engines. Why? Here are five reasons.

Travel Agents Get Stuff You Can’t
They get upgrades, special treatment from vendors, and discounts that you can’t get. Many airlines won’t guarantee assigned seats, even in business or first class, but travel agents can. Try getting an upgrade or a special seat from the airline, or from a booking engine; you can’t, but your travel agent can, according to Julie Barsamian at CookTravel.Net.

Travel Agents Have Insight to Possibilities (and Problems) You’ve Never Thought of
Inclement weather, medical emergencies, visas, baggage restrictions and ever escalating fees, delays, cancelations, what to wear, where to eat, what not to wear, what not to eat, when and where to reserve bulkhead or exit row seats. Try finding that information on a booking engine. Maybe it’s hidden somewhere in the fine print with the fees.

Vendors are in Cahoots with Travel Agents, Not You
You have to leave to Dubai in three hours and the name on your ticket is spelled wrong, or you have to get on a later flight, what do you do? Call customer service, of course! What does that really mean? You’ll wait on hold for ten minutes before you talk with the lowest level drone available. It ultimately takes an hour to navigate this quagmire, and you don't get what you need. Travel agents don't start from the bottom up; they can make adjustments much quicker than you because they know the vendors, you don't. Aren’t you too old or too busy to put up with outsourced customer service reps from Asia, who don’t know anything?

Would You Let a Gas Station Attendant Drill Your Teeth?
If you would, maybe you should suffer the potentially disastrous blowback of booking your own travel. People specialize for a reason. Maybe you’re a cardiologist, or a writer, or a truck driver…keep it that way, and nobody gets hurt. “There’s a reason why travel agents are not going the way of the dinosaurs and, in fact, are still responsible for over 51 percent of airline bookings around the world,” says Julie Barsamian of CookTravel.Net. “ They have first-hand industry experience and they know the short cuts to savings that you don’t.”

But They’re Expensive!
Travel agents are actually more upfront with their fees than hotel and airline booking engines, or even airlines themselves. True, many travel agents may charge a small booking fee, but it is worth it for a discounted fare. Booking engines and airlines often hide their fees by building them directly into the cost of the ticket, or burying them in lines of fine print. Plus, if you find yourself faced with an emergency and need to cancel or change your booking a travel agent can do it for you. Good luck talking to someone in Mumbai. You get what you pay for.

Traveling to Mexico? New regulations on currency acceptance

Mexico to Adopt U.S. Currency Restriction - These new regulations will impact the Mexican tourism industry. What this means to you and fellow travelers visiting Mexico is that the tourism infrastructure will be forced to severely limit their acceptance of US cash currency. Currently, travelers to popular resort destinations often do not need to exchange U.S. currency to Pesos as many airports, hotels and restaurants readily accept U.S. currency. Once the regulation begins, travelers will need to ensure they have an appropriate amount of Mexican Pesos, a credit card or traveler's checks to avoid any problems if paying for transactions while in Mexico or at Mexican airports. The regulations do not restrict non-cash transactions denominated in U.S. currency (e.g., wire transfers, ACH payments, credit card transactions, traveler's checks, etc.)

And yes future travelers, Mexico is very safe and welcomes tourists.

Destination Review: Santorini Greece (Also blogged on Nantucket Weddings Unveiled)

Santorini Greece - located in the Cyclades, Aegean, and voted in 2006 as Travel and Leisure’s World’s Most Romantic Destination. Santorini combines culture, scenery, history, gastronomy, mythology, and rich romance. When you arrive via ferry or air, you feel displaced, and overwhelmingly so. The magnificent look of the profound blue of the Aegean Sea, breathtaking views of the submerged volcano (The Caldera), and traditional seaside villages will take your breath away the moment you arrive.

The Villages of Oia and Fira (the capital) offer unique experiences. Fira, located on the West side of the island, stands proud on a 260 meter cliff and will give you amazing views of the volcano.

From Fira, you can tour by boat to the volcano of Nea and Palia Kameni. (Palia Kameni is home to the natural hot springs… sshh!).

Oia, is known for the “gifted” sunsets and one of the most picturesque destinations in the world.

Our Favorite Accommodations? We are happy to share them with you:

Mystique Resort: Situated on a seaside cliff overlooking the Aegean Sea and the Caldera, .5 miles from Oia Village, the hotel aims for an atmosphere of understated elegance, open air dining, and fresh luxury.

Rates start at 480EURO per night plus tax. 3rd Night free promotions runs through the end of March. Inquire for details!

Stonehouse Villa: Snuggled among traffic free winding lanes in the heart of Megalochori Village with lush floral and stone walkways and churches. This is a quaint dream-like treasure for “two.”

“Perfect for couples that are looking for a small, traditional and uniquely Santorinian home on the island.” Private plunge pool in an enclosed stone courtyard for al fresco dining, one spacious bedroom, and full kitchen.

*Rates start at 270 EURO per night plus tax

Big Island, Hawaii: Destination Review by Kristin Chambers

Big Island, Hawaii

Romance evoked by nature; endless mountainous scenery of snow peaked mountains, wandering valleys, tropical rainforests, powerful beaches, and a rich Hawaiian heritage to top it off.

Imagine flying over fiery lava spews of the Big Island's active volcano, Kilauea. A moment to be assured neither of you will ever forget. Kilauea is currently active at two locations; the Summit and East Rift Zone (where the lava collides with the ocean)

Gaze out at the Kohala Coast on a helicopter adventure, with it's chiseled coastal cliffs and thunderous waterfalls, dubbed the second most amazing scenic adventure to the active volcanic activity on the Big Island. The National Volcano Park of Hawaii renders over 70 million years of volcanism, migration, and evolution and can be just as exciting discovered through hiking

Explore the island via rental car and loose yourselves in the off roads, discovering signs of ancient Hawaiian villages. Cruise through Kona and check out local eateries and watering holes.

Thinking about traveling? Check out the favorites..and there are deals to be had!

The Fairmont Orchid Hawaii Resort offers legendary service, a "Spa Without Walls," with 15 outdoor treatment "hales," oceanfront pool, watersports, 36 holes of championship golf, and 32 acres including their private white sand beach.
Current promotions give you a $500 air credit when you book at least 5 nights. Combine hotel specials for free nights (every 3rd or 5th night free), free breakfast, and more.
**This special runs through 12/22/2010 if you book by 2/22/2010

The Volcano Tree House is something to be experienced for at least two nights. Nestled in the rainforest just outside the entrance to the National Volcano Park, free from telephones and cable, and located somewhere in the rainforest of Volcano Village.

“At Volcano Tree House, you will awaken refreshed to the peaceful sound of the last drops of an early morning rain, and the music of native songbirds” ~ Theresa Sommer, Innkeeper

Book the Tree Top Suite for the ultimate romantic stay. Rates starting at $159.00 per night plus tax.
